Description: In this piece, Yani3lle captures the cosmic grandeur of our planet’s rotation and the ephemeral nature of each sunset. It invites us to marvel at the universe’s vastness and reminds us that every sunset is a fleeting glimpse into the past—a celestial time machine unfolding before our eyes.

"If you’re new to this planet, let me introduce you to our celestial time machine, some others call it a sunset. A sunset occurs when the Sun dips below the horizon due to the Earth’s axial movement. This particular sunset was captured in Boston, where the Earth rotates at 1,290 km/h (800 mph) while orbiting the Sun at 107,000 km/h (66,600 mph).

But that’s just the beginning. Right now, we’re also moving through the galaxy at 514,000 mph and traveling with the Milky Way at 1.3 million mph through the universe. Here’s the mind-blowing part: when you watch a sunset, you’re seeing the Sun as it was 8 minutes ago because light takes time to travel. Every sunset is a glimpse into the past. You are witnessing the Sun’s last light before it journeys to another horizon. Kind of like a celestial time machine, isn’t it? I guess that explains why I love sunsets so much."
